Sample Problem

The same amount of rice and flour is in a shop. Mr. Smith packed all the rice in 5 bags weighing 52.19 pounds each. Then, he sold some of the flour and packed the remaining flour in 4 bags weighing 62.59 pounds each. How many pounds of flour did he sell?

pounds

Solution

The amount of rice or flour: 52.19 × 5 = 260.95 lb.

The amount of flour packed: 62.59 × 4 = 250.36 lb.

Thus, the amount of flour sold: 260.95 – 250.36 = 10.59 lb.
