(a) Compare the number of apples to oranges to peaches in ratios without simplify.

: :

(b) Compare the number of apples to oranges to peaches in ratios with simplify.

: :

Solution

According the numbers of each fruit, the comparison could be expressed as the following ratios:

(a) 40:10:30

(b) 40 ÷ 10 = 4, so apples are 4 times oranges.

30 ÷ 10 = 3, so peaches are 3 times oranges.

Thus, the comparison could also be expressed as the ratio of 4:1:3.
