Sample Problem

The weight of Ada is 45.5 kg while the weight of Tyler is 64.5 kg. What is the simplest form of Ada’s weight to Tyler’s weight?

Solution

The ratio of Ada’s weight to Tyler’s weight could be: 45.5:64.5

Multiply each part of the ratio by 10 to make them whole numbers:

45.5:64.5 = (45.5 × 10) : (64.5 × 10) = 455:645

Then, divide each whole number of the ratio by common factors to find its simplest form:

455:645 = (455 ÷ 5) : (645 ÷ 5) = 91:129
