Sample Problem

There are 7 cars and 4  bikes.

(a) What is the ratio of the number of bikes to the number of cars?

(b) The number of bikes is times the number of cars. (Write as a fraction).

Solution

(a) There are 7 cars and 4 bikes, thus the ratio is 4:7.

(b) 4 ÷ 7 =  , so the number of  bikes is  of the number of cars.

From the above, we can find that 4:7 and  express the same relationship between the number of bikes and the number of cars.
