Uncle John picked 855 apples. If he packed them into as many large containers as possible of 100 apples each and some small containers of 10 apples each,

(1) How many large containers could he pack?

(2) How many small containers could he pack?

(3) How many apples would be left unpacked?

Solution

In 855, there are 8 hundreds and 5 tens and 5 ones. So

There are 8 large containers and 5 small containers.

5 apples would be left unpacked.
