Sample Problem

Jim travelled the first 3 hours of his journey at speed of 60 mph and the remaining 5 hours at 24 mph. How long is the whole journey in miles?

  miles

Solution

Recall the formula: Speed × Time = Distance

Distance for the first 3 hours: 3 × 60 = 180 miles

The distance for the remaining 5 hours: 5 × 24 = 120 miles

Thus, 120 + 180 = 300 miles
