Sample Problem

Town Q and Town P were 119 km apart. Van drove from Town Q to Town P at an average speed of 70 km/h. How much sooner would he have arrived at Town P if he had travelled at an average speed of 85 km/h instead?

  min

Solution

The time for 70 km/h: 119 ÷ 70 = 1.7

The time for 85 km/h: 119 ÷ 85 = 1.4

Thus, the time difference: 1.7 - 1.4 = 0.3 h = 0.3 × 60 min = 18 min
