There are 1,741 adults on a train, which is 13 more than 16 times of the number of children.

How many passengers are on the train altogether?

Solution

The number of children: (1,741 – 13) ÷ 16 = 1728 ÷ 16 = 108

Thus, 1,741 + 108 = 1,849
