Sample Problem

Some squirrels are sharing a pile of acorns. If each squirrel gets 12 acorns, 12 acorns will be left. If each squirrel gets 13 acorns, 7 more acorns will be needed. How many acorns are in the pile?

acorns

Solution

If each squirrel gets 1 more acorn, the difference of acorns is 12 + 7 = 19.

So there are 19 squirrels in all.

Then, 12 × 19 + 12 = 240

There are 240 acorns in all.
