Sample Problem

20 machines can process 2,400 table lamps in 10 hours. If there are 6 more machines, how many table lamps can be processed in 12 hours?

table lamps

Solution

Find the rate of productivity of one machine first.

Rate of productivity = Amount produced ÷ time

Number of table lamps for one machine per hour: 2,400 ÷ 20 ÷ 10 = 12

Total number of machines: 20 + 6 = 26

Thus, total number of table lamps in 12 hours: 12 × 26 × 12 = 3,744
