Sample Problem

Mr. Johnson earned $16,000 in 4 months. At this rate, how much money did he earn total after another year? (Don’t include a comma in your answer.)

$.00

Solution

Figure out the rate at which Mr. Johnson earns money.

16,000 ÷ 4 = $4,000 per month

Use this to figure out how much money he earns in a year.

1 year = 12 months

4,000 × 12 = $48,000

Add this to the amount of money he already earned to figure out the total.

16,000 + 48,000 = $64,000 total
