Sample Problem

If a cannon launches a cannonball with speed 50 m/s at angle 43° to the normal (horizontal) , what is the initial vertical velocity?

Solution

We know that the vertical component = speed sinθ, so if we put in our givens, speed = 50 m/s, and θ = 43°

and we get vertical component = 50 (sin 43) = 34 m/s
